Because winning 2nd place in the 2.5 mile Peaks to Portland Swim is apparently not very hard core, Sarah decided that we must bike 6 miles with 30 lbs of gear on the same day. (Sarah's 'gear' consisted of dirty
laundry in a kitty litter bin). Our goal was to visit Scratch Bagels and eat cookies at Bug Light, in preparation of our upcoming trip. (iPhone photo folks, not my real camera!)
In response to the first question that likely came to mind - Yes, eating cookies is most certainly a requirement of preparing for vacation. Why, you might ask? We plan to bike the Southern Edge of the Gaspe Peninsula. And since we count our calories (i.e. Did I eat enough cookies today?) we needed to sample Scratch's baked goods.
Here's the plan: 1 week, 3 people, 3 bikes and 3x camping gear in a Honda Fit (this should be interesting) plan to drive 9 hours to the base of the Gaspe Peninsula. We will take a train to the Northeastern tip of Gaspe, and begin our adventure at Parc National Forillon. The next 5 days will involve riding a somewhat relaxed 20-40 miles/day back toward the car and camping in beautiful places. The final day - here's the whopper - is the part that's more vacation and less pain: We have cleverly arranged to park the Honda Fit at a spa where we will have MASSAGES before driving back to our beloved Portland.
We're pleased as punch.
